The Kentucky Derby is less than one week away, and the excitement is mounting at the Sportsbook and the Racebook. The list of Derby contenders is long, and we’re probably no closer to picking a winner than we were several months ago. Here are the current Kentucky Derby odds for the top three (lets-call-them-favorites).

Big Brown – 7:1

Big Brown won the Florida Derby. Trainer Richard Dutrow Jr. placed $160K on his pick Saint Liam in the 2005 Breeders’ Cup classic, and cashed in for $384 on the by-a-length victory. Another big payday ahead?

Colonel John – 5:1

Named Santa Anita’s “horse of the meet” in their annual media poll. Won the G-3 Sham Stakes on 1 March at Arcadia. A strong contender?

Pyro – 7:1

Hyped, de-hyped, hyped again — Pyro has had an interesting ride (ha) as a Derby contender. Odd dropped dramatically after his baffling 10th place finish in the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland. Who’s to say?

March Madness Looms: Got a Bracket?

March Madness and the 2008 NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament is soon upon us. Will BYU live up to it’s 3/2 odds to win the Mountain West? Is UCLA, at 1/1, a since for the PAC-10, or will Oregon State pull off the mother of all comebacks and ignore the 150/1 odds against ‘em to triumph?
